Noah's Story

This is a short summary of Noah's Story from beginning to end pieced together in one place for those of you that want to share it.

Noah's Story (Written 2010, updated 2011, 2012 and 2014)

As the mom of an 6 year old child given to us by the courts at the age of 3 months, you can imagine how hard it was to watch our new son begin to exhibit signs of autism between 2 and 3 years of age. Our first signs were what we thought was a lack of bonding with us. He did not want to be held, he wanted to be alone and he would not look at you when you tried to talk with him. He was obsessed with things that turned. He would spin everything. As he neared 3 years of age, he became very fixed on things. You could not get him to look at you by calling his name, by trying to bribe him with a toy, or by calling to him in a louder voice. The only way you could get his attention was to physically go to him and touch him. He would not talk to us. His only words were sentences he memorized from movies. He appeared to live in his own little world. I resisted for several months the idea of taking him to a doctor that could possible diagnose our problem. He saw his regular doctor very, very often. He constantly had sore throat, congestion, runny nose and earaches. He seemed to be on antibiotics every few weeks. Our doctor saw the possibility of autism in his behavior and sent him to a specialist. She confirmed after evaluating him. She felt he should immediately be enrolled in an Early Intervention Program. We enrolled him in PPCD in our school district. A friend suggested I research essential oils.

In March 2008, we got our first batch of essential oils from Young Living. We started using Thieves on his feet to support his Immune System along with RC and Raven to support his Respiratory System. We were taking charge of his physical health but still struggling with the autism and social issues.

In January of 2009, I read a book by Dr. Jacqueline McCandless entitled “Children with Starving Brains”. She speaks of the lack of digestive enzymes in the child's gut to process food which creates a "starving brain" effect. I found a product called MightyZymes to supplement his enzymatic activity int he gut and we decided to try it. I started giving him MightyZymes. I hate to admit it but it was a hit and miss proposition. Slowly we began seeing improvement. He became more loving. He wanted to be held. He began to come and get us by the hand and take us somewhere to get something for him.

In April 2009, at the age of 5, we put him in “big boy unders” instead of a pull up during the day. He had very few accidents even at school. He began to ask people their name.

The end of May 2009, we made the commitment to give him 3 MightyZymes a day every day. By the end of June, it seems he burst out of his shell. He began talking in a conversational method. His first sentence that just blew me away was “Mommy, cook me some food.” I knew that was not memorized from his movie. By the end of July 2009, Noah was asking questions, answering questions and carrying on some normal conversations. He has become very loving and wants us with him, to play with him, to watch movies with him, to read with him. The first part of July we quit putting a night diaper on him. We were seeing him become a little person that could interact with us. He can now tell us what he wants to eat, tell me his toe hurts, tell me that I can’t go to work today because there is a thunderstorm outside. We are still at awe at the 60 day improvement we saw.

Update May 2011:
Noah did not show a lot of emotions during the first 7 years of his life. Earlier on there was a lot of anger because he could not tell us what he wanted. Once he was able to converse with us, there was still not a lot of emotion. He never cried from pain or whined about something that did not go his way. A second degree burn in his palm was not realized until the 2nd day after the accident because he never cried or reacted to pain. At the age of 7 we could walk through a toy department and he would look at the toys but seldom ask for one. If he was told no, then he moved on to the next thing of interest he saw. I read an article in April 2011 that the brain requires fatty acids to function properly. We started giving him fatty acid supplements daily the first week of April. By the end of April we had a new emotional child. Walking through the toy section was no longer enjoyable for me. We saw our first temper tantrums because he could not take the toys with him. We are now learning to deal with crying from pain, to crying because something did not go his way, to whining because he is tired. I know this is normal for kids his age but it is new to us. We have backed off the Omega Blue to 3 X per week and are seeing a more normal emotional health and he is slowly learning to deal with the emotions.

Before I give you Noah’s protocol, I'm going to tell you first about the company who distills the "essential oils" we use. Gary Young is the founder of Young Living Essential Oils. Gary isn't the normal CEO of a big company. He owns the company but is still the researcher searching the rain forests looking for plants that have never been studied. He distills in his own facilities many of the oils produced. All products bought from an outside source under goes rigorous gas chromatograph studies. He has taught at 2 universities in France, studied in Germany, China and Brazil universities. He owns large farms in the US, Ecuador, Peru, Israel, Oman and France where he grows many species of plants for distilling. His expertise is the top in the essential oil industry.

The difference between Young Living oils and oils you purchase at a health food store is often like the difference in night and day. This is just one example: Cypress requires a minimum of 24 hours of distillation at low heat and low pressure to extract most of the therapeutically-active constituents. If distillation time is cut by only 2 hours, most of the chemical constituents will be missing from the resulting oil. Most commercial cypress found in stores is distilled for 2 hours and 15 minutes. This short distillation process produces cheaper oil and oil with little or no therapeutic value.

In the U.S., few companies use the proper analytical equipment to properly analyze essential oils. Proper analyzing is complex. The injection mixture, column diameter and length, and oven temperature must fall within certain parameters. Unless someone has studied and trained in France (known as the "Father of Essential Oils") or Turkey, they will not understand how to accurately test essential oils. The standard testing column length in the US is 30 meters. A 50-60 meter column is required to achieve proper separation of all constituents and enables double phased ramping which makes it possible to identify constituents that occur in smaller percentages by increasing the separation of compounds.

Gary Young is the expert in this field. Young Living Oils are absolutely 100% pure. If you will read other "oils labels" they will all say for external use or aromotherapy only. This is because they are not distilled properly and most are adulterated with synthetic compounds that cannot be distinguished except by a highly trained chemist who examines the entire fingerprint of the oil to determine its purity and potency. We can take most of Young Living Oils internally. There are a few that are not recommended for internal use because their intent is not for internal use.

OK, that's the introduction to Young Living Oils and why they are the only oils I can recommend. We have used them for 6 years for our family's health.

As for Noah's use of oils, we started with "Thieves". We place 2 drops on each foot every night before bed to support his Immune System.

Frankincense is an essential oil we use every morning on Noah. I usually place 1 drop NEAT (undiluted) on the back of neck at base of skull and 1 drop on bottom of foot. Oils are absorbed into the blood stream fastest when placed under tongue, taken internally in capsule or placed on bottom of foot. Frankincense contains sesquiterpenes which stimulate the limbic system of the brain (the center of memory and emotions) and the hypothalmus, pineal and pituitary glands. The hypothalamus is the master gland of the human body, producing many vital hormones including thyroid and growth hormone.

Brainpower is the other oil blend I use on a daily basis. Brainpower is an "oil blend" of Frankincense, Sandalwood, Melissa, Cedarwood, Blue Cypress, Lavender and Helichrysum. It promotes deep concentration and channels physical energy into mental energy. It increases mental potential and clarity and long term use may retard the aging process. These oils help dissolve petrochemicals that congest the receptor sites, clearing the "brain fog" that people experience due to exposure to synthetic petrochemicals in food, skin and hair products and air.

Peace and Calming (blend) promotes relaxation and a deep sense of peace and emotional well being, helping to dampen tensions and uplift spirits. When massaged on the bottom of feet, it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night's rest.  Personally, I place 2 drops in my palm, rub my hands together, then placing both hands momentarily over his ears (like you don't want him to hear what you are going to say), then run your hands down both arms and wipe your hands on his shirt so he can smell it all day. I even run my fingers through his hair sometimes.

OK, that's the daily schedule of oils: Thieves, Frankincense, Brainpower and Peace & Calming.

Now for the First Aid Kit:
Di-Gize: Supports Digestive System
Blue Eucalyptus, Raven or RC for Respiratory Support. Diffuse in room and apply 2 drops diluted 1:1 on chest. May be placed on back if you feel it is needed.
Lavender: Supports Integumentary System
At age 7, with Gary Young’s advice, we have added more digestive enzymes. He gets 6 MightyZymes a day.

March 2012 UPDATE
Noah has been off of allergy medication for 5 months with the help of a natural substance called “Fenugreek & Thyme” capsules. This is not a YL product but I hope in the near future, it might be. His attitude at school has been amazing since December. He is getting “Top of the Chart” days most days. We have realized that his allergy medicine is directly tied to his hyperactivity, his stemming and his attitude.

June 2014 UPDATE
Noah took his last dose of Fenugreek and Thyme. He spent a week in June with my daughter who taught him to like a few gluten free foods and how to put a drop of lavender under the tongue. Since June, he has been primarily gluten free and lavender free. We have had over 30 days of NO ALLERGY intervention.

August 2014 UPDATE
Just an update on some amazing results we have seen with Noah in the past 4 months. After hearing Ryan Watson speak at a seminar in Dallas in January 2014, we came home and implemented one of the protocols he suggested which included Young Living's Essential Oil Vetiver.

Just a little history so you understand the situation. Noah's biggest problem at that time was "social behavior". If he had toys (transformers, legos, train tracks) set up in the playroom, he expected them to look like he left them when he quit playing. Other children tearing down his train tracks or remaking his lego cities created major social issues.

Several weekends a month we have many people at our home for fellowship (this includes 12 kids under the age of 12). It can become very overstimulating for Noah so he has a room to retreat to. He is allowed to carry one person at a time with him to play.

So, Sunday morning when he got up, I applied Vetiver under his nose for him to inhale as Ryan had suggested. He went to his room with a friend to play. Around 11 AM I went to offer him a snack and he was not in his room. I proceeded to the playroom where I find him playing with 11 kids. I ask the older kids how he was doing and they replied that he had not caused a single problem and was playing just fine. At 1 PM, I went back to get them for lunch and he was still playing, no problems. He played a total of 5 hours without a social "incident".

Fast forward, to Monday morning and I was thinking OK, he did great with the Vetiver yesterday, let's see how it works with schoolwork. Same procedure, placed a smear (not a full drop) under his nose and allowed him to inhale for a few minutes. We homeschool, so I pulled out his math book and normally he would finish 1 page front and back in a class period. I came back 30 minutes later to encourage him to "pick up his pencil and finish his homework" and he was starting on page 6. Every number he had written was near perfect and for the first time, he was actually erasing a number that he had made too big. We saved those pages to frame.

This is 6 months later, we still use Vetiver at least twice a day and life has become so much easier. We took Noah to Amarillo in April for a "brainmapping" session with Ryan. He gave us a protocol of several of the emotional oils to use for a while including Forgiveness, Release, Harmony and Present Time. I feel the combination of the emotional oils along with the Vetiver and trying to maintain a gluten free diet  has given Noah so much more quality in his life.

This past weekend, I do not remember a social incident happening and we have done away with the "get away" room. Homeschooling is so much easier and just everyday life is once again nearly normal.

September 2015
As Noah grows into a pre-teen (hard to believe), his protocol has been greatly reduced.  He still gets his 6 MightyZymes every day. We have added Life 5 Probiotics and Mineral Essence along with one NingXia Nitro and 2 ounces of NingXia Red daily. If we need emotional oils, they are always close by. The first aid kit is also always available for those seasonal situations.

David and I give all honor and glory to God, we thank those responsible for the oils and supplements we use (Young Living) and all those in Young Living that we are blessed to learn from. This has been a beautiful journey and I know the future will be even better with Young Living Essential Oils.
